A 21-year-old man is facing multiple weapons charges after police say a fist fight turned into a knife fight in St. Thomas.
Police were called for a disturbance at the rear of the west end Royal Bank around 1:30 p.m. Monday.
Officials say an altercation between two males over an outstanding debt began on Talbot Street, then the two met again behind the Royal Bank in the Curtis Street parking lot.
That's where the argument reportedly became physical, and one male pulled a knife and began waving and jabbing it in the direction of the other male.
Police say an off-duty officer interevened at that point and the male with the knife fled, but was arrested a few blocks away.
The St. Thomas man is facing charges including:
- possession of a weapon when prohibited
- possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- assault
- unauthorized possession of a weapon
He was being held in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
The other male involved in the altercation, a 22-year-old St. Thomas man, was not injured.
