A housing complex on Limberlost Road was evacuated Saturday and six out of eight units destroyed by fire.
Damages are pegged at $1.5 million and numerous people are left homeless.
Firefighters had a difficult time containing the fire at 1460 Limberlost Road due to strong winds, with gusts upwards of 70 kilometres an hour.
A fire inspector says it appears smoke detectors and the quick action of police, who knocked on doors, prevented injuries.
"With this wind... the whole complex was evacuated," said Const. Frank Figliomeni of the London police. "Everyone got out safely."
But residents were visibly shaken as they waited outside, some with pets in crates.
Figliomeni says the Fire Marshal's Office has been called.
