A woman is in custody following a police pursuit that continued through St. Thomas and out into Elgin County on Thursday morning.
According to St. Thomas police, officers observed a minivan they believed was being driven by a 23-year-old Malahide woman wanted for failing to attend court on outstanding robbery charges from another jurisdiction.
When officers attempted to pull over the driver, police say she took off.
The attempted traffic stop took place on Talbot Street near Burwell Road just before 7 a.m. The pursuit led police through the northeast area of the city to Edgeware Line. Police say at no point were speeds excessive.
Eventually police say the pursuit continued into the county, where Elgin OPP took over. OPP were able to eventually stop the driver around 7:30 a.m. and take her into custody, but not until after the minivan side-swiped a police cruiser.
During the arrest, provincial police say the woman resisted and allegedly assaulted one officer, who was not injured.
Police say the driver was apprehended without injury and is being held pending a bail hearing on Friday. No charges have yet been laid.
