London Mayor Joe Fontana wants to shift the city's proposal to permit large food trucks into overdrive.
City staff in London were proposing a modest pilot project for this summer that would allow three trucks to park in three specific spots around Victoria Park and operate from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
After hearing from the public and potential operators Monday night, the mayor tore into the plan as overly cautious and restrictive.
The proposal to restrict the hours, locations and number of food trucks fell flat. So city staff will come back with a revised plan to present to the Community and Protective Services Committee in June.
The plan could revamp the proposed rules to allow 10 to 15 trucks which could move between multiple locations across the city. It would still have to be approved by council.
Food trucks are already extremely popular in other cities including Toronto, Hamilton and across the United States.
