On Monday, July 18, around 10:30 p.m. emergency crews attended the scene at Clarke Road and Whitney Street after a report of a collision involving an LTC bus and a pedestrian.
According to police the bus was southbound on Clarke Road when the driver made a left turn into the parking lot of Argyle Mall and struck the woman.
She was taken to hospital where she later died as a result of her injuries.
Police have since identified her as Deborah McGrath of Hamilton.
The bus driver, a 36-year-old London man, has been charged with careless driving.
The president of ATU Local 741, that represents LTC employees released this statement to CTV London.
It is a very horrible thing that has happened. Our hearts go out to Ms McGrath's family. I do understand the Operator of the bus has been charged. No one goes to work thinking such a terrible thing can happen. The Operator and all involved have been offered trauma counseling. We have yet to hear from London Police Services about their investigation other than the charges against the operator. We are all devastated by the loss of life and the effect it has on so many.
