Allison Vickerd, who stopped to help a man who had collapsed during a race, was recognized for her efforts by the Canadian Red Cross on Monday.
Vickerd was off-duty and running a 10K race when she noticed a man ahead of her had collapsed.
She quickly responded, and worked manage the situation until an ambulance arrived.
On Monday, Vickerd was presented with a ‘Rescuer Award,’ which recognizes those who go out of their way to help others.
In a statement, Kelly Farrell of the Canadian Red Cross says, “Our hope is that Allison’s actions inspire others to acquire these same skills and employ them with confidence whenever the need arises.”
Brian George, London’s deputy fire chief, added that the department is very proud of Vickerd and that “she exemplifies the qualities of our profession and the vision of the London Fire Department.”
