A London doctor who sexually abused a patient was given a two-month suspension from practising medicine and must pay $40,000 associated with the cost of his misconduct.
The ruling came Thursday in Toronto by the College of Physicians and Surgeons, who had earlier found that Naeem Hafiz Muhammad sexually abused a female patient.
Muhammad, a family doctor who owns and operates two walk-in clinics, one at Wharncliffe Road and Oxford Street and another on Wonderland Road South, pushed a CTV London camerawoman as he left the hearing.
He was also ordered Thursday to complete a course on communications, sexual harassment and relationship boundaries.
Details published by the CPSO’s Discipline Committee indicate between December 2009 and September 2010, Muhammad made inappropriate comments to and about the woman.
In September 2010, he “made inappropriate and sexual comments to her and engaged in sexual abuse of her, including touching her lips, hugging and kissing her and that this constituted the sexual abuse of a patient.”
The victim’s mother said the abuse and hearing have been hard on her daughter.
“It’s a victim being revictimized and revictimized for a period of almost three years,” she said.
The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario is the licensing and disciplinary body for physicians in Ontario. Discipline hearings are held to review allegations of professional misconduct and incompetence, and are open to the public.
