Hockey Day in Canada was enjoyed by young and old across the country, both indoors and outdoors.

In London, people took advantage of a colder day to get out on the ice.

The George Bray Hockey Association played classic pond hockey at the Western Ontario Fish and Game Club on Southdale Road.

For Dean Gawkley, hockey is the No. 1 sport, period.

“It’s the only sport there is,” he says.

Jeff Mahler, who was at Farquhason Arena, loves the team aspect of hockey.

“I just love the team and how we have games and practices and have a fun time,” the boy says.

Proud hockey mom Melissa Barker says the skills children learn now will help them throughout their lives.

“You learn to win; you learn to lose. These are the skills you take with you for the rest of your life.”

Hockey fans hope that the game will also remain popular in Canada.

“I love it. I sure hope it stays relevant for kids and families for years to come,” says Terry Bowman.
