Knights wrap up three-game weekend with Sunday home game versus rival Kitchener
First place in the Midwest Division of the Ontario Hockey League is on the line Sunday when the Kitchener Rangers come to Canada Life Place to face the London Knights.
It’s the third game in three days for London, after splitting a pair of games with Windsor.
The Knights lead the Rangers by just one point in the division with each team having played 30 games.
London had a chance to extend that lead, but Windsor’s Jack Nesbitt broke a 2-2 tie Saturday night with just 2:22 left in the third period to give the Spitfires a 3-2 win at the WFCU Centre.
The win gave the Spitfires a split after London beat them 4-2 Friday.
Henry Brzustewicz and Blake Montgomery scored for London while goalie Alexei Medvedev made 39 saves to earn first star honours.
The Knights played this game without four of their stars. Easton Cowan, Sam Dickinson and Oliver Bonk have made Team Canada for the 2025 World Junior Hockey Championship, and Denver Barkey did not play after trying out for the team this week.
When they get Barkey back, they’ll lose two more players as Kasper Halttunen and Jesse Nurmi will play for Finland in the tournament being held in Ottawa, Ont.
Puck drop at Canada Life Place is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday.
