It's not even two years since an F3 tornado blasted the town of Goderich, killing one man, injuring dozens of others and causing massive damage to the historic downtown and some residential areas. Signs of recovery are everywhere though.

The tornado hit in August 2011 and Goderich is now celebrating its rebuilding and recovery efforts.

The Southwest Economic Alliance – the body that creates the jobs strategy for southwestern Ontario–is holding its eighth annual strategy session in Goderich to showcase how economic success can be achieved wherever people choose to work and live.

Delegates will see first hand on Thursday and Friday the town’s expansive rebuilding efforts.

Town staff say business activity is increasing in Goderich, with 16 new shops and restaurants. There were more than $29 million in building permits issued last year.

Investment is also increasing in the area, with the United Communities Credit Union investing more than $1 million for a new branch.

More than 150 trees have been replanted in the downtown, dozens of buildings restored and more than $3 million invested in Courthouse Square.
