A coroner's inquest into the death of an inmate at the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre is set to begin Monday morning in London.
Jamie High, 40, died on on Dec. 23, 2014 at London Health Sciences Centre. He died following a transfer from the detention centre. Police determined there was no foul play.
Under the Coroner's Act, a mandatory inquest is required, and is set to begin Monday morning an 10 a.m.
The inquest will examine the events surrounding High's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
The inquest comes just a week after another death occurred at the detention centre. Last week a male inmate died after what is believed to be overdose. Another male inmate was also taken to hospital.
The latest incident has increased calls from the public and politicians to install a body scanner at the jail.
