Provincial police are reminding residents in Grey County that the time for deer hunting with rifles will begin in a week.
This year the season runs from half an hour before sunrise on Monday, Nov. 4 until one half hour past sunset on Saturday, Nov. 9.
During the annual event, police often receive calls from concerned residents reporting hearing gun shots being fired.
The OPP is reminding residents that they can expect to hear gun shots during rifle hunting season and there is no cause to be alarmed.
The OPP and the Ministry of Natural Resources will be patrolling the area to ensure all hunters are complying with the regulations.
Hunters are easily recognizable by wearing blaze orange hats, coats and vests and must follow guidelines including:
- Do not hunt from roadways.
- Do not shoot across roads.
- Do not shoot from your vehicle.
- Always be sure of your target before shooting.
- Always carry your firearms and hunting licence with you.
- Always have permission to hunt on lands that you don’t own.
- Rifles must be unloaded at roadside and while transporting.
- Rifles must be in hard or soft cases prior to and after hunting times.
The guidelines help ensure public safety and greater enjoyment of the deer hunting season and failure to follow them can result in charges.
