A female driver is facing impaired driving charges after a Hummer SUV crashed into a church in Kerwood Wednesday.
OPP responded to the collision just after 7:30 a.m. Wednesday after a single vehicle collision was reported on Kerwood Rd. at McKenzie St.
Police say a maroon Hummer travelling northbound left the road, struck a hydro pole and then collided with St. Paul’s Anglican Church.
The church was empty at the time but the damage was extensive.
The collision left a large hole in the side of the brick structure and several pews were damaged as well. An estimate has not yet been determined.
The 36-year-old female driver was taken to hospital and has since been released.
She has been charged with driving while impaired, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance.
She is scheduled to appear in a London court on November 27th.
