A 27-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged after a tractor trailer rollover on the Highway 401 off-ramp at Veterans Memorial Parkway.
The eastbound off-ramp was closed for about seven hours after the incident at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday as crews worked to remove the truck and its contents.
Police say a lone tractor trailer struck the guard rail, causing the truck and its trailer to roll on its side down the embankment, spilling over 44,000 pounds of sugar.
Driver Malkeet Brar, 27, of Winnipeg was charged with careless driving. He suffered minor injuries. He was issued a provincial offences notice and released at the scene without incident.
Members of the Ministry of Transportation will be on the scene Thursday conducting repairs to the damaged guard rail. Police are asking the public to travel slowly through the area to ensure the safety of all members working at the scene.
