The case surrounding serial killer Elizabeth Wettlaufer has now gone from the criminal courts to civil proceedings after lawsuits were filed Monday in London.
Civil suits have been filed against Wettlaufer, who killed eight people in long term care homes and Caressant Care in Woodstock and Meadow Park Long Term Care in London.
They are named in the suits filed by the families of two victims.
The families of Arpad Horvath Sr. and James Silcox have filed the claims. Both are seeking $250,000 in damages.
Horvath's son, Arpad Horvath Jr., says the suit is not about money. "It's more about principle," he says.
On Tuesday, the Ontario College of Nurses is holding a disciplinary hearing in Toronto. Wettlaufer resigned from the regulatory body in September of last year.
A formal reprimand is expected from the College at Tuesday's hearing.
Wettlaufer has been sentenced to life in prison without eligibility for parole for 25 years
