A barn fire has killed about 13,000 chickens at a farm in Perth County.
Damage is estimated at $1 million.
Fire crews were called around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday to the farm on Perth Road 124 north of Milverton.
“The fire was well involved when crews arrived,” says Todd McKone, fire prevention officer. “We basically just saved the other outlying structures.”
Fire officials say the barn was home to about 13,000 breeder hens and all of them were killed.
There is no word on cause. An investigator from the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal will attend the scene.
Four separate fire departments were called to battle the blaze - Milverton, Listowel, Shakespeare and Sebringville.
