London-Fanshawe MPP Teresa Armstrong said Friday she wants the provincial ombudsman to have oversight of the health care system.
The call comes after mislabelled chemotherapy drugs were given to nearly 1,000 patients in the province.
Armstrong said Londoners suffered the most by the oversight.
She was joined on Friday by Barry Vickery who received the diluted drugs during cancer treatment.
“People like Barry should know that there is an independent, third party that can investigate if something goes wrong in our health care system,” Armstrong said.
“The trust many Londoners had in their healthcare system has been shaken because of the government’s failure to properly manage process in hospitals and the healthcare system.” she said.
Close to 700 London patients were given incorrect doses of chemotherapy medicine.
Her proposal would give the Ombudsman oversight over hospitals, ambulance services, long-term care homes, community care access centres and retirement homes.
