Tributes are pouring in on social media for former Woodstock Mayor Pat Sobeski, who passed away Thursday.

Sobeski served as mayor from 2010 to 2014, when he lost his re-eletion bid.

He was also a Conservative MP from 1988 to 1993.

He was known for his community involvement in the Woodstock area and groups such as Big Brothers, Big Sisters, the Downtown Woodstock BIA, the Woodstock hospital foundation and the Oxford branch of the Canadian Cancer Society are praising his contributions.

The Fanshawe College Woodstock campus offered condolences to his family on Facebook.

"Our entire campus community is saddened to learn of the passing of former Woodstock Mayor Pat Sobeski. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time."

Sobeski also worked to pull his community together once convictions were reached in the murder of eight-year-old Tori Stafford. She died at the hands of Terri-Lynne McClintic and Michael Rafferty in 2009 and the convictions came in 2012.

"Our community is a good community, it's a strong community, it's a resilient community. It's a community of people who are going to bounce back from this horrific incident and...we're going to become a better community," he said.

There are no details at this time on funeral arrangements or cause of death.
