A new political party is looking to change the way divorces are handled in Ontario.
Dennis Valenta is the found of the Equal Parenting Party of Ontario. His party’s goal? To overhaul the family court system – one that Valenta believes pits moms against dads.
“In the event of a divorce, the parents will be viewed as equal. So (the child) will spend 50 per cent of time with mom, 50 per cent of their time with dad,” Valenta says.
The Huron County father knows what he speaks. He's spent the past 14 years fighting for access to his four kids and now two grandchildren he's never met.
Largely viewed as a man's issue, Valenta has recruited a Mississauga mother to be the Equal Parenting Party's second candidate.
