Councillor Maureen Cassidy has paid back the city of London for expenses she billed taxpayers for a conference she never attended, according to sources who spoke with CTV News.
The expenses billed were close to $1100 for registration and materials for a June meeting of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) conference in Winnipeg.
Cassidy chose not to attend the meeting after voluntarily and temporarily leaving politics to focus on her family after admitting to having a sexual relationship with Mayor Matt Brown.
The conference was booked in advance before she took her leave of absence.
Cassidy was to run for a seat on the board of directors of the FCM.
Now, London is left without a voice on the board, upsetting many in the community, including Ward 6 Coun. Phil Squire.
"These are expenses citizens of London received no benefit for. Wherever we can indentify that this relationship had an impact on the city in terms of money spent or positions lost we should bring that to the public's attention and take care of it," says Squire.
