Authorities with the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority are urging residents to let their lawns go dormant and skip the car wash.

The UTRCA is reporting that the watershed is experiencing a low water situation. Currently the watershed is at Level 1 Low Water conditions.

Level 1 is first in a three-tiered advisory system used in Ontario to inform the public of low water conditions.

According to the UTRCA precipitation over the past three months (April – June) averaged 129 mm across the watershed, which is less than 50% of normal.

Officials say to keep young trees watered but to let grass go dormant and to avoid washing cars.
