OPP are investigating a collision in Huron County that has left one person dead and four others injured.
The crash occurred Wednesday morning around 3:30 a.m. north of Clinton, Ont., on London Road (Highway 4) near Summerhill Road.
The initial investigation found the driver of a Nissan Quest minivan was southbound on London Road when the vehicle collided with a deer on the roadway.
Police say the driver then lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the roadway and down a steep embankment on the east side where it ultimately came to rest on its wheels in a shallow creek.
One passenger, who was seated in the third row, was transported from the scene by land ambulance and was later pronounced deceased in hospital.
He has since been identified as Errol Brown, 39, of London.
The driver and three other passengers are reportedly recovering:
- Mark Hylton, 40, of London, the driver, was airlifted to hospital in London where her remains with non-life threatening injuries
- Lyle Riddell, 40, of London, was airlifted to hospital in London where he remains with non-life threatening injuries
- Eloid Drummond, 42, of London, was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries
- Lloyd Cohen, 27, was transported to hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged
The men in the van were reportedly co-workers who were on their way home to London after finishing work at a farm near Wingham, Ont.
Police say three of the five men were not wearing seatbelts, and that the deceased was one of those not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Investigators also believe speed played a role in the outcome of the crash.
London Road between Summerhill Road and Winthrop Road was closed as police conducted their investigation, but it was re-opened to traffic early Wednesday afternoon.
