Perth County OPP are looking for two suspects after guns and cash were reportedly stolen from a locked shed in Mitchell, Ont.

Police say a passerby alerted police after becoming suspicious as he drove by a farm residence on Line 46 between Mitchell and Monkton around 10 a.m. Thursday.

He reportedly told police he thought it was suspicious when he saw two men preparing to load an ATV into a U-Haul truck, so he turned around and went back to check on the property, at which point the suspects fled toward Mitchell in the U-Haul.

Shortly afterward, OPP say they found the abandoned U-Haul in the parking lot of the Mitchell Arena on Wellington Street.

With the assistance of the West Region ERT and Canine Team, police are now searching for two break and enter suspects.

The two suspects were last seen on foot heading west on Rowland Street in Mitchell.

They are described as young males in their mid 20s. Both were wearing blue jeans, while one was wearing a red sweater and the other a grey hoodie.

Officers who returned to the break and enter scene found a detached shed had been forcibly entered and three firearms and cash were stolen. The firearms are described as:

  • a Baikal, 20 gauge, double-barrelled shotgun with a wooden stock
  • a Browning, 12 gauge, pump-action shotgun with a wooden stock
  • a black .22 - 250 calibre rifle
