The sale of London Hydro is off the table.

London city councillors said Monday night they've heard loud and clear from the public on the issue and will not bring it up again during this term.

The decision came while they debated a $75,000 communications program to educate Londoners about several options for London Hydro's future.

Valued at about $300 million, selling some or all of its ownership of the utility has been seen by some as a way to generate money for the cash strapped city.

Monday’s decision does leave open the option to either merge with another utility or acquire a smaller hydro provider.

Mayor Joe Fontana says the decision ties the hands of hydro's board of directors.
