Environment Canada investigators have confirmed a weak F1 tornado hit northwest of Mildmay, Ont. on Tuesday, the first of the 2014 season.
Four homes and three barns in Bruce County had damage including parts of the roofs ripped off as a storm passed through the region shortly after 5 p.m.
Investigators say the focused, narrow path of damage - about two kilometres long and 150 metres wide - suggests it was a tornado and not a downburst.
A low-end F1 tornado brings wind speeds around 135 km/h.
Neighbours reported seeing a funnel cloud shortly before the damage occurred and a storm chaser says he saw a landspout tornado near Listowel, Ont.
Two children were in one of the homes at the time of the storm, but no one was injured.
However, five cattle were killed when a small barn was levelled.
Neighbours and firefighters helped the owners of the home that suffered damage cover their roof before more rain fell around 9 p.m.
Eight years ago a twister caused severe damage in the Mildmay area.
