A kitchen fire destroyed a townhouse unit in east London.

The fire broke out just before 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 18th at 1199 Hamilton Road, east of Gore Road. Six fire trucks and police attended the scene.

Fire officials attribute the blaze to unattended cooking. They say it was a grease fire that quickly spread into the attic. It caused about $200,000 dollars in damage.

The occupant of the home managed to escape safely.
