There are numerous road closures in midwestern Ontario and there was a fatal crash Friday as snow squalls continue to move through the area.
Conditions are changing rapidly, meaning roads are closing, re-opening and then closing again as the weather shifts.
Up-to-date road conditions can be found on the Grey County, Bruce County and Ministry of Transportation websites or by calling 511.
In Grey Highalnds, drivers were being asked avoid Highway 10 between Road 170 and Soughate Road 26 after a fatal two-vehicle crash shortly after 11:30 a.m.
Grey County OPP say the driver of a southbound Honda Civic, 33-year-old Steven Henry Perry Jr. of Dundalk, was killed when the vehicle collided with a northbound Chevrolet SUV.
The driver and passenger in the SUV were treated for minor injuries in hospital and released.
As of 4:30 p.m., Environment Canada had issued a snow squall watch for Huron and northern Wellington counties.
The forecaster says snowfall of 10 to 15 centimentres every 12 hours can be expected with blowing snow and zero visibility at times.
Winds were expected to shift Friday afternoon or evening to become more westerly, shifting lake effect snow bands to affect areas east of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.
The amount of open water on the Great Lakes has been contributing to the severity of the squalls in midwestern Ontario.
Fortunately, it appears the lakes are freezing over quickly, going from less than 10 per cent ice cover on Monday to more than 18 per cent on Thursday.
Ice cover is expected to exceed 20-25 per cent by Monday.
