The death of an 84-year-old woman in Woodstock has gone from suspicious to a murder investigation.

Woodstock police charged a 41-year-old man with second-degree murder Wednesday in the death of Pearl Brown.

Police have released few details, but say the man is in custody and will appear in court on Thursday. They say there is no threat to the public.

Police were called to a duplex at 58 Huron St. in the east end of Woodstock Tuesday evening and found the woman's body.

Neighbours say she lived alone.

The body of the woman was taken to London for an autopsy, the results of  which, police say, led to the murder charge.
