A Woodstock family and their roommate has been displaced from their home following a Boxing Day fire.

Crews were called to 272 Wellington St. early Saturday morning.

Thankfully, three adults and two children escaped without injury.

"I opened the door and there was flames shooting out of the house," a visitor tells CTV News.

The man and his partner fought the flames and successfully got out the woman's two children, aged 2 and 8.

Although two other adults were still inside and had to climb out of a basement window.

Fire officials are blaming unattended cooking as the cause of the blaze, but it remains under investigation.

The tenants dispute the cause.

Damage is pegged at $90,000.

The family did not have any insurance and all of the kid's Christmas presents were damaged.

Donations for the family can be dropped off at 255 6th Ave. in Woodstock
