London police say anti-human trafficking outreach operations have prompted a 20-year-old victim to come forward.
Investigators say the woman, who has an intellectual disability, reported to police that she was being trafficked for sex-related services.
In February, the suspect allegedly convinced the victim to move in with her in Brampton, Ont. and then took control of her finances, introduced her to prostitution, and threatened and assaulted her in order to control her.
Police say the woman was transported for the purpose of prostitution to hotels in Brampton, Windsor, Mississauga and London.
As a result of this investigation, a 40-year-old Brampton, Ont. woman was arrested Wednesday and has been charged with:
- trafficking in persons
- receiving financial benefit from trafficking
- assault
- assault with a weapon
- forcible confinement
- procuring illicit sexual intercourse
- procuring person to be a prostitute
- exercising control of a person for the purpose of prostitution
- extortion
- sexual exploitation of a person with disability
She remains in custody with a court date on Wednesday.
