The driver of a pickup truck found submerged in the Saugeen River in the Township of Southgate has been identified as 51-year-old Donna Evans of Guelph.
Grey County OPP say a post mortem found the cause of death to be consistent with drowning.
Police were called to the scene off Southgate Road 10 east of Southgate Side Road 7 shortly before 7 a.m. on Friday after someone spotted a pickup in the water and saw someone in the driver’s side of the vehicle.
The OPP Underwater Search and Rescue Unit was called in to remove the lone occupant from the vehicle. She was already deceased.
Investigators say it appears the pickup was westbound on Southgate Road 10 when it left the roadway, travelled down the south embankment and entered the water.
An investigation into the collision continues.
