A woman and her baby were lucky to escape injury after debris smashed through the windshield of her car. The incident happened on Cockshutt Road in Norfolk County around noon on Sunday, September 18th, 2016.

OPP say a 20-year-old Brantford woman was travelling southbound on Cockshutt Road when she was passed by a northbound pickup truck towing a grain trailer. The tarp covering the trailer flew off as the truck passed the woman’s car. A metal pole from the tarp's housing then struck the car. The pole broke through the driver’s side front windshield and continued through the vehicle, stopping at the rear hatch.

The woman was able to safely stop her car at the side of the road. Neither she nor her two-month-old infant in the back seat sustained injury. Police caution that insecure loads have the potential to cause serious life-threatening injuries or fatalities.

The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
