The Thames Valley District School Board has announced that winter sports will not resume in high schools this season.

In a press release, Laura Elliott, the board’s executive superintendent of program services, says there isn’t enough time left for practice and competition.

“We have run out of time…This does not mean we’re cancelling sports for the rest of the year…we are still hopeful. Anything can happen in the talks between the province and the teachers’ unions.”

The season was put on hold in December after teachers stopped taking part due to their objections to the Ontario government’s Bill 115.

Elliott added that labour conditions will be monitored and the board will try to provide sports when possible.
