OPP have charged a West Grey man after allegations he assaulted his neighbour, a 63-year-old woman, near Durham.

Police were called to a home in the former Township of Bentinck on Friday following reports of a disturbance.

On arrival, they say they found an off-duty officer and a resident had detained a male who reportedly assaulted his neighbour.

A 63-year-old woman was transported by ambulance to hospital in Durham before being airlifted to Victorial Hospital in London.

At the request of the family, her name is not being released.

Jerry Brown, 41, of West Grey, has been charged with attempted murder, break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, breach of probation and possession of a controlled substance.

He was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
