A London Justice of the Peace has fined Wescast Industries Inc. $110,000 after a worker was injured in a fall at the company’s Strathroy plant.

The worker sustained a fractured arm and head injuries after a fall at the vehicle exhaust system manufacturing plant in January 2011.

The worker was on a Skyjack scissor lift performing maintenance on a ventilation system when the lift fell over.

The Ministry of Labour found a tire on the Skyjack drove into a coolant collection trough, causing the machine to tip.

The court found Wescast failed to ensure the worksite floor was free from hazard, by failing to ensure a grate for the trough was secured in place.

The company has also been order to pay a 25 per cent victim fine surcharge as required by the Provincial Offences Act, which goes to a provincial fund to assist victims of crime.
