Worried Londoners with ties to South Sudan gathered in Victoria Park Saturday to rally for peace.
Violence continues in South Sudan, where more than 120,000 people have been displaced.
“Children are dying in the bushes. I have seen them. I've seen tanks… gun shots. I'm talking from experience,” says Abely Kuol.
About 1,000 people have been killed by the violence and thousands more are seeking shelter.
The crisis is being called “a power struggle among leaders” by the local Sudanese community.
“We are calling for peace so they can start some dialogue and we can resolve things peacefully,” says Emanuela Bringi.
There are about 2,500 Sudanese residents in London.
At the rally, regardless of whether or not they have immediate family there, those in attendance wanted to spread the message of peace.
“We are all worried, not even just for having family there, but the Sudanese people. We don't want to see our people continue to go through something like this,” Bringi says.
Many hope their loved ones will have a chance for a peaceful life like they do in in Canada.
“When they are affected, we are directly affected. That's why we are here,” says Yamedo Awai.
