A 48-year-old Varney man has been charged after two officers responding to a complaint of a man bathing in a stream were allegedly assaulted.
Steven Dilworth has been charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer, two counts of assault with a weapon, committing an indecent act and intending to resist arrest.
Officers were called to a stream near the public swimming area on Varney Pond around 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday after complaints a man was bathing in the stream.
He was identified as a suspect in an earlier indecent exposure incident, and police approached the man.
He then allegedly became aggressive, kicking one officer in the head and face area and punching another officer and swinging a gallon water jug.
The officers were treated at Durham Hospital for their injuries and then released.
