Two trailer residences at the Paul Bunyan Lakeside Resort near Bayfield were destroyed by fire Saturday.

Firefighters from Bayfield were called to the scene at 75559 Lidderdale St. around 9:30 a.m. Zurich firefighters were then called in for backup.

“The two trailers burned completely,” said resort owner Jim Boere. “But nobody was injured. The people living there were having coffee (elsewhere).”

He says the blaze started in one trailer and spread to the other. The trailers are 12 by 40 feet with shingled roofs.

Scott Beattie, a London firefighter who also has a trailer in the resort, says someone pounded on his door to alert him to the fire. "I came running and I made sure there wasn't anybody inside."

Boere believes both families had insurance and he says they have other residences as well.

“This is their vacation place."

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
