Strathroy District Collegiate Institute and Holy Cross Catholic Secondary have been closed Thursday after staff reported the smell of gas at the start of the school day.

SDCI and Holy Cross share a space and students and staff from both schools were diverted to the nearby Gemini Sportsplex where they remained safe while Union Gas workers investigated the gas smell.

School board officials say, by 9:30 a.m. the source of the smell had not been located. In consultation with the London District Catholic School Board, the Thames Valley District Sschool Board senior administration decided to close the school.

Parents were being asked to pick up their children as soon as possible if students are not able to walk home. Buses will be provided at the end of the school day, and students will be supervised in the Gemini Sportsplex for the day.

For more information, parents may call the school at 519-245-2680.
