Middlesex OPP are on the scene Sunday of an early morning single-vehicle accident in Newbury that left two people dead.

OPP say the adult male and female were not wearing their seatbelts and speed was also a factor in the crash that happened on Concession Drive near Hagerty Road, near Four Counties Hospital at Newbury.

Police told CTV the two were in a white Kia sport utility vehicle travelling east when the driver lost control, travelled through a cornfield and hit two trees about 3:30 a.m.

The pair was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A dog in the vehicle also died.

Concession Drive has been closed between Hagerty and Big Bend Road.

Police have not released the names of the victims.
