A Clinton couple escaped with only minor smoke inhalation after their home caught fire Tuesday night.

There's not much left of the couple's home on Rattenbury St. E. after a fire started around 7:40 p.m.

It took several hours for fire crews to bring the blaze under control and a section of Clinton was blocked off as crews fought the stubborn blaze.

The couple were home at the time of the fire and escaped safely, but several pets perished.

A GoFundMe donation page has been set up by friends to help the couple try to rebuild their lives.

Huron County OPP say the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation but it is believed to be accidental in nature.
