A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued to about 100 Ingersoll residents after a water sample was reported contaminated with bacteria.

The affected area is Carnegie Street to George Street to Catherine Street and King Hiram Street to Bruce Street.

Town and health officials have delivered notices to affected residents.

It is expected the notice will remain in effect for another 36 to 48 hours. The advisory will be lifted once all resample water results come back negative for bacteria.

Affected residents are being asked to boil their drinking water or consume bottled water for the time being.

Residents affected should bring water to a rolling boil for one minute. Boiled water can then be cooled and stored in clean containers. This water should be used for drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, brushing teeth and making infant formula.

The town says it will notify residents when the water is safe to drink.
