The Silcox family of Frome had three siblings who joined the war effort.

Eva, Bessie and Hugh each enlisted and two made it overseas.

Hugh gave the ultimate sacrifice. He was killed on April 9, 1917 at Vimy Ridge. He served with the Canadian Light Horse Unit. 

Hugh was born on June 27, 1891 in Southwold.

Eva enlisted in May 1917 and served in France with the Canadian Army Medical Corps. She was discharge in 1919 and died in 1926.

Bessie was born Feb. 15, 1893 and died Oct. 29, 1997 at 105.

She enlisted with the Canadian Army Medical Corps and was en route overseas when the war ended. Bessie worked as a nurse for 42 years. Her photo and uniform are in the Elgin Military Museum.
