It was a busier Saturday than usual for Western's campus, because it was open house for high school students contemplating Western for their post-secondary education.

Along with bus tours, there were also walking tours of the campus.

Among those helping out was Ivey Business school student Erika Frey.

"Being able to see that light in their eyes when they realize, 'do you know what, I think this is the place for me' or 'this is the program i want', it's really rewarding," says Frey.

In most cases, students are accompanied by their parents who seem as interested and as anxious as the prospective students.

Connor McVay is interested in a career in the film industry and is considering western for next year.

"It's all happening pretty fast, you only have a few months to decide where you want to go, what career you want to follow for the rest of your life. So it's lots of focus for just a few months," says McVay.

The orientation co-coordinator says it's all about trying address many questions or concerns that students and parents might have.

"Is this the place i want to be? Some students like a larger environment and others like a smaller environment. Is it friendly? And that's what Western is really well known for, we really care about our students. Am I going to be safe and secure? And most of all, is the program that Western offers the one that's right for me," says Lori Gribbon, undergraduate recruitment director.
