Huron County OPP have laid 10 new charges against a North Huron man - bringing the total to 39 - with 10 alleged victims involved.

Police say Martin Cretier worked at the Wingham & District Hospital and volunteered as a Scout leader with the 1st Wingham Scout Troop, and used these positions to gain access to victims.

The new charges relate to sexual assaults that allegedly took place from 1976 to 2001 involving three people aged nine to 17.

Cretier, 71, has now been charged with:

  • three counts of indecent assault
  • three counts of gross indecency
  • three counts of sexual assault
  • one count of sexual interference

Police say Cretier was arrested Wednesday morning and has since been released with a court date scheduled for Feb. 18 in Wingham.

In November 2015, OPP laid 21 charges against Cretier in relation to five alleged victims aged 10 to 21 and incidents alleged to have occurred between 1971 and 1995.

In Sept. 2015, eight charges were laid in connection with alleged incidents involving two teenage boys in the 1970s.
