London police say a 17-year-old male has been arrested in a ride-by sexual assault that occurred on Wednesday, and they are investigating his connection to a string of similar incidents in the city.

A female undercover officer was jogging in the area of Commissioners Road East and Western Counties Road around 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday when a male on a bicycle touched her inappropriately.

The London teen was arrested a short time later and has been charged with one count of sexual assault.

London police Const. Ken Steeves says “As a result of all the sexual assaults that were reported to us, we created a project of officers solely assigned to these investigations. As part of the investigation we had undercover officers out last night and that’s when a female officer was inappropriately touched by a male on a bicycle.”

Investigators are now looking into whether the same person was involved in 10 other similar assaults.

Police had previously reported nine additional assaults, but say a tenth female came forward reporting she had been touched around 6:05 a.m. on August 29th while walking in the area of Grey Street near Colborne Street.

Two photos of bicycles associated with the male have been released by police, who say the investigation is continuing to see if there is a connection.

Steeves adds “We are encouraging anyone else who may have been sexually assaulted in the past by this male, or if you recognize the bicycles, to contact police.”

The suspect is described as a black male with a light to medium complexion, medium build, 5’6” to 5’10” tall with short, black hair riding a BMX or mountain-bike style of bicycle.
