A 17-year-old male was arrested and charged Monday after his 54-year-old mother was stabbed and sent to hospital in serious condition.

London police were called to an apartment at 389 Dundas Street around 3:15 a.m. Monday after they say male and female occupants of the apartment were awoken by the victim's screaming.

Officers say when they got there, they found the woman suffering from stab wounds. She was transported to hospital where she remains in serious, but stable condition.

Police seized a knife and the teen was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital with minor injuries. Police say another male occupant was also transported to hospital as a result of a minor, unintentional injury.

Neither the victim nor the accused lives at the address.

On Monday afternoon the teen was charged with attempted murder and assault with a weapon. He cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
