Taking a taxi to get home if you’re drinking seems a sensible thing to do, but not if you're consuming alcohol while in a taxi, police say.

OPP were conducting a RIDE program on Saturday night in West Perth, between Sebringville and Mitchell and stopped a cab minivan.

The cab had seven adult passengers who were consuming liquor, OPP said.

The seven passengers were given a ticket for consuming liquor in other than a licenced premises, residence or private place.

The driver was also issued a ticket for driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available.

A check on the taxi cab licence plates indicated that they were not registered to the vehicle.

The driver was warned for this offence while the cab owner was issued a summons for permit use of plate not authorized for the vehicle.

The cab was towed from the scene, while the driver and passengers found alternate means to reach their destinations.
