London police investigated a suspicious package at Westervelt College Monday.

At around 8:35 a.m, a staff member located a gym bag on the northwest corner of Westervelt College on Wellington Road.

“The bag appeared suspicious as it had what looked to be a metal box and some type of wires inside of it,” says Const. Sandasha Bough.

Police evacuated the building and pedestrian traffic was shut down on the east side of Wellington Road.

The London police bomb squad was called in and determined that the contents were not suspiciouis.

The northbound curb lane of Wellington Road was closed, but later reopened.

Woodstock police also had a lockdown situation in the area of Finkle, Dover and Walter Streets to investigate the wellbeing of a male.

Schools in the area were on lockdown around 10 a.m.

"The decision to put the schools in a lock and hold was to minimize the flow of vehicular and human presence in the area so police could conduct an investigation," a news release says.

"Police were not concerned for public safety during this investigation."

Police say just after 11 a.m., they were able to locate the man.
