RCMP have charged a man in Strathroy with fraud and uttering forged documents in relation to over $300,000 in allegedly fraudulent Employment Insurance payments.
Officials say the investigation began in August, after Service Canada contacted the RCMP over the actions of a federal government employee.
There were allegations that the employee used his position and database access privileges to misappropriate government funds and the RCMP alleges that forged documents were used to support the fraud.
"This is an excellent example of cooperation from our partners at Service Canada to identify and assist the RCMP with maintaining the economic integrity of Canada," Inspector Andrew Cowan, Officer in Charge of the London RCMP Detachment said in a statement.
On Wednesday, 37-year-old Aaron Nicholas Ogier, was charged with one count of fraud over $5,000, four counts of uttering forged documents and one count of possession of proceeds or property obtained by crime.
He is scheduled to appear in court in London on Feb. 19.
